Week 2 of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Championship Series in Monroe-West Monroe! Adults compete on the court this week.
According to NWBA, Division I begins today and Division II & III begins Friday at the West Monroe Sports and Events facility.

If you’ve been watching March Madness, you’ve probably noticed how quickly a player can go from unknown to everywhere. One big game or viral moment. One story people latch onto and suddenly, everyone cares. Everyone is their biggest fan. It’s a reminder of something simple: visibility changes everything and not just in who we root for, but who gets opportunities, funding, and a future in sport.
Recently, I listened to a conversation about women in Paralympic sport that made that idea impossible to ignore. Here are five takeaways that stuck with me and why they matter far beyond the Paralympics.

Initial Selections Announced for the 2026 Women’s USA Wheelchair Basketball Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) and the High Performance Selection Committee have announced the initial selection of twenty (20) athletes to the High Performance Pool--part of the selection process for the 2026 Women’s USA Wheelchair Basketball National Team. These initial selections were made after the 2026 Women's World Championships Team Try-Out Camp hosted January 3-7 at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL.

Brookfield students turn rivalry into hope at annual Gold Out football game
BROOKFIELD — Under the Friday night lights, Brookfield Central and Brookfield East put their rivalry aside and wore the same color — gold — for a cause that hits close to home.
The schools faced off in their annual Gold Out Game, a community tradition that raises money for childhood cancer research. Each year, students in both schools’ Key Clubs organize the event to “fight for those fighting cancer.”

Emily Oberst: ATHLETE AMBASSADOR
Emily Oberst is a Team USA Paralympian and silver medalist from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. After being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, she discovered wheelchair basketball, which transformed her life and inspired her journey as a professional athlete. Now the Community Outreach Director at the Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association, Emily advocates for child rights, safe sport, and inclusion, using her platform as a Generation 2026 Athlete Ambassador to empower youth and create spaces where all athletes can thrive.
