About Me

I’m Emily Oberst—Paralympic silver medalist, cancer survivor, keynote speaker and passionate advocate for adaptive sports. I believe challenges don’t define us—they shape us—and I’m passionate about using my story to help others see what’s possible.

At 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma bone cancer, a moment that changed my life and ultimately led me to the sport that would shape my future: wheelchair basketball. Today, I’m proud to represent Team USA, earning a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and competing alongside some of the best athletes in the world in sold-out stadiums.

My journey has taken me from getting recruited by the University of Alabama to transferring to the University of Illinois, where I earned a degree in Sports Management and competed as a collegiate wheelchair basketball athlete, to my current role as Community Outreach Director for Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association, where I help expand opportunities for athletes of all abilities to experience the confidence, community, and joy that sport can bring.

Along the way, I’ve been honored as a Collegiate All-American, National Champion, Most Valuable Player, and World Cup Bronze Medalist—but my impact beyond the court is what motivates me most. I love sharing my story through keynote speaking and advocacy, building inclusive communities, and helping others believe in their ability to chase big goals.

Right now, I’m training with my sights set on the LA 2028 Paralympic Games and one goal in mind: bringing home gold for Team USA.

Off the court, I love fitness, wellness, cooking, music, travel, beauty and fashion, and my podcast, Plot Twist with Emily Oberstwhere I talk with athletes and influential individuals about life’s plot twists, i.e. the moments that change everything.
